Afraid of the dark?

Bible Verse: “The Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
— Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV)

Story Time

Have you ever been afraid of the dark? Maybe you’ve had to sleep with the lights on or pulled the covers up tight because you were scared of what you couldn’t see.

Guess what? You’re not alone. Even though darkness can feel a little scary, Jesus promises something amazing: He will always be with you, even in the dark. Jesus is with you when you’re at home, when you’re outside playing, and even when it’s time to go to bed. So, no matter how dark it gets, you don’t need to be afraid.

Think about this: Remember the time when Jesus and His friends were in a boat, and a big storm came? The waves were crashing, and the wind was blowing so hard! His friends were scared and thought they might drown. But Jesus was there. He said to the storm, “Peace! Be still!” And the storm stopped right away.

Just like Jesus calmed that storm, He can calm any fear we have—whether it’s the fear of the dark or something else. Jesus is so powerful, He can help us feel safe even when we can’t see everything around us.

A Little Prayer for You:

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for always being with me, no matter what. I know that when I am afraid, I can trust You to keep me safe. Help me remember that You are with me in the dark, and I don’t need to be afraid. Thank You for being my light, and for always loving me.
Amen.

What You Can Do:

  1. When You Feel Afraid of the Dark:
When it’s time to go to bed, you can say a little prayer. Tell Jesus how you’re feeling and ask Him to help you feel brave. You can also remember that He’s there with you, even when the room is dark.
  2. Find Comfort in a Nightlight:
If you like, you can have a nightlight in your room. Just like the nightlight helps you see in the dark, Jesus is your light that helps you feel safe when you can’t see everything clearly.
  3. Sing a Happy Song:
You can sing a song like, “Jesus Loves Me” or “This Little Light of Mine.” Singing reminds you that Jesus is always with you and that He loves you very much!

Remember:

Jesus is the Light of the World! He is with you, and nothing can make you afraid when you know He’s near. So, even if it’s dark outside or in your room, Jesus is your light. You are never alone. 😊

Tip for Parents/Guardians:
This devotional can be a great way to teach your child that Jesus is always present, even in moments of fear. Use it as part of a bedtime routine and encourage them to pray or sing before going to sleep. A comforting reminder that Jesus is their constant companion can help them feel secure and loved.
